- From the discussion, I am under the impression that for your $200 you get
- a set of binaries ( not source ) that will compile Modula, PASCAL and Ansi C.
- How well supported is this? I got the impression it comes with no documentation.
-
- We just got GCC 2.3.2 and LIBG++ 2.3 off the Internet. It works beautifully
- on our SUN and when we sort out the include directories in between all the
- Christmas drinks, we have been told it should work quite well on BSDI.
-
- I noticed that minix on a 386 is one of the supported systems. Are we a chance
- to getting 1.6.?? up and running with GCC? I think I have that quaint technique
- called ARLD on my 1.5 system - yuk! I think I read that the new release uses
- the more conventional way of handling libraries and loading objects, - ar & ld.
- Does the new minix come with the source of both its AS (assembler), AR
- (archiver) and LD (loader) or will I have to get the GNU equivalents
- GAS, AR and LD operational too. The last time I fought with GNU's LD ( about
- 18 months ago on a SUN ) it won, so I would prefer to avoid it. I have to do
- this stuff anyway as I am looking to retarget Minix onto a VME-based 68030
- system shortly and I really do not think I can rely on non source based items.
-
- Anybody else tried to use GCC with the new Minix. I'll summarize any replies
- or the state of the work when we do it - won't be till the end of January
- because I am off on holidays shortly to get some summer sun.
-
- Unfortunately, none of the above will help those with a 286 or XT.
- Yes I already saw all the flack about 286 machines from the linux group.
- Anybody thought about getting together and ordering a massive batch of
- 386SX motherboards with a 1Mb SIMM en masse from a good quality clone maker.
- It should cost less than $US150 if you chase the right manufacturer.
