  11. Just in time for all your Christmas stockings, the second beta release of
  12. MINIX 1.6.24 (henceforth called 1.6.24b) for the Intel CPUs is available  This 
  13. is similar to the first beta release, but with a lot of minor improvements all
  14. over the place, and many bugs fixed.  It has been tested with both the new
  15. ANSI ACK compiler (definitely the preferred one), and the original K&R ACK
  16. compiler.  Except for a few minor problems, the K&R compiler works ok, although
  17. it tends to issue warning messages a fair amount.  The ANSI compiler does this
  18. less due to the presence of prototypes.  The entire MINIX code is now written
  19. in ANSI C, and is about 80% of the way there to compatibility with POSIX
  20. 1003.1 1990 (ISO 9945-1).  Chapters 3, 4, 5, and 6 of 9945-1 have been
  21. implemented.  All that is left are a few small items in those chapters, plus
  22. Chap. 7 (terminal stuff).

  24. Please fetch the contents of the minix/1.6.24b directory from ftp.cs.vu.nl
  25. (192.31.231.42) and see the READ_ME file.  For people without FTP access, is
  26. there an archive site available to store the cdiffs?

  28. Please report bugs on the net.  After the dust settles, I will fix any remaining
  29. bugs and then make this the official version for a while.
