- The guys pulling the scam are Rockwell International. They introduced
- two single-chip modems, one for 2400bps, the other for 2400bps,
- 9600/4800 Send/ReceiveFax, that "support" MNP/V.42(bis) this way. Since
- it is *very* cheap for a manufacturer to make a modem based on these
- chips, I expect lots of them in the near future. You can be pretty sure
- that they will not put a big sticker on saying "MNP/V.42(bis) only with
- appropriate software". Let's see how they are going to provide a RPI
- driver for my FACIT 4431 terminal (VT100 clone)... oops, looks like it
- ain't the real thing.
-
- I don't mind anybody defending Rockwell. Actually I'd like to hear some
- serious arguments in favor of this solution. Until then... well, when I
- first saw the chip described in a Rockwell catalog I knew what would
- happen and I was pissed off. I still am.
