- I have thought about this alternative also before, and I can see the
- advantages. However, I came to the conclusion that unlike Keith I
- clearly prefer the post the upload announcements in the quoted
- format, and thus want continue post them in my own name. Both
- methdos have their pros and cons, both in principle and in practice.
-
- As you will have noticed we do many things the same way, but there
- are also some differences like this posting convention. The other
- minor differences are that Keith prefers that SIMTEL20 policies are
- not debated on the net (please respect that, gentle users), while
- Garbo policies can. The background is simply that I am fortunate to
- be in a postition where I have a decisive say in most Garbo policy
- issues. (Not that I am likely agree to change anything! :-). The
- third of the few differences is that I am a bit more inclined to
- reporting (also alleged) program bugs publicly while Keith prefers
- that the author be contacted first. That is about all the
- differences in our practices that I can think of. These really pose
- no problems whatsoever. In fact they make our work more efficient
- when we don't need to overdo our well-working coordination of
- SIMTEL20 and Garbo practices.
-
- While we are on policy matters you may have observed that SIMTEL20
- and Garbo occasionally announce things in a duplicate manner. We
- have discussed this between ourselves. We have come to the
- conclusion that we simply cannot afford an extra coordination
- effort. Besides there is no real harm in the overlap except some
- additional bandwidth.
-
- All the best, Timo
