  21. I have thought about this alternative also before, and I can see the
  22. advantages.  However, I came to the conclusion that unlike Keith I
  23. clearly prefer the post the upload announcements in the quoted
  24. format, and thus want continue post them in my own name.  Both
  25. methdos have their pros and cons, both in principle and in practice.

  27. As you will have noticed we do many things the same way, but there
  28. are also some differences like this posting convention.  The other
  29. minor differences are that Keith prefers that SIMTEL20 policies are
  30. not debated on the net (please respect that, gentle users), while
  31. Garbo policies can.  The background is simply that I am fortunate to
  32. be in a postition where I have a decisive say in most Garbo policy
  33. issues.  (Not that I am likely agree to change anything! :-).  The
  34. third of the few differences is that I am a bit more inclined to
  35. reporting (also alleged) program bugs publicly while Keith prefers
  36. that the author be contacted first.  That is about all the
  37. differences in our practices that I can think of.  These really pose
  38. no problems whatsoever.  In fact they make our work more efficient
  39. when we don't need to overdo our well-working coordination of
  40. SIMTEL20 and Garbo practices.

  42. While we are on policy matters you may have observed that SIMTEL20
  43. and Garbo occasionally announce things in a duplicate manner.  We
  44. have discussed this between ourselves.  We have come to the
  45. conclusion that we simply cannot afford an extra coordination
  46. effort.  Besides there is no real harm in the overlap except some
  47. additional bandwidth.
