  24. Nagware is part of the computer jargon or parlance and is modelled
  25. after the familiar word 'shareware'.  Nagware means that the program
  26. (usually) has one or several screens that remind you of registering.

  28. There are several words like that.  For example 'crippleware' means
  29. that the program is somehow limited in its functions.  That, too, is
  30. to exhort (some say extort :-) the user into registering.

  32. Crippling and nagging in shareware programs are issues which have
  33. been hotly debated on the net over and over again (ad nauseum).  As
  34. an archive site moderator I just try to categorize, and let the
  35. users draw their own conclusions according to their subjective
  36. preferences.

  38. In the case of gifv37.zip the nag is exceptionally heavy, and one
  39. users called aptly called it 'badgerware' in a letter to me.

  41. A general note to all users.  I'll be pleased to try to answer your
  42. questions time allowing.  But in cases of questions of general
  43. interest (this is such) please also consider the alternative of
  44. posting your welcome questions, and the views you might have on the
  45. announced uploads, directly to comp.arhives.msdos.d.  That way the
  46. question has a wider audience, and the newsgroup serves its assigned
  47. purpose.  (I'll post this reply of mine to CAM.d).
