- Apologies for delayed response. There are several places in the UK
- where AI is available at undergraduate and postgraduate level all
- offering different strengths and weaknesses.
-
- The largest and best known is Edinburgh University, with departments
- of AI and Cognitive Science.
-
- Sussex University (where I worked for 27 years, till I felt I needed
- a change in 1991) has a strong AI group in the School of Cognitive
- and Computing Sciences, which also includes Psychology, Linguistics,
- Philosophy and Computer Science.
-
- Here at Birmingham the School of Computer Science has several AI
- people and more will be coming. (We are in the process of appointing
- two new lecturers and further growth is planned). We collaborate
- with the Schools of Psychology, Philosophy and English in running a
- Cognitive Science MSc and research supervision. And a collection of
- new undergraduate AI degreees with X (X = Psychology, Computer
- Science, Mathematics, etc.) will soon be starting.
-
- Imperial college has a strong logic-based AI group in the Computer
- Science department. They take research students and, I think, MSc
- students.
-
- Nottingham University has a strong AI group in the psychology
- department.
-
- Leeds University has a strong AI contingent in the Computer Science
- Department.
-
- Essex University has AI and cognitive science, linked to Computer
- Science.
-
- Exeter University has an AI group in the computer science
- department.
-
- Mike Brady leads a robotics and vision-oriented AI group in Oxford
- University. I believe they accept only AI research students.
-
- There are several people doing AI at Cambridge University. Again I
- think AI is available only as a research degree.
-
- Aberdeen University has an AI group and has MSc and Research
- students doing AI.
-
- No doubt there are others I have forgotten.
