- DECUS FALL 1992 SEMINARS AND SYMPOSIUM PROGRAMS A SUCCESS
-
- ... plans for Spring Seminars, Symposium,
- and Trade Show Proceeding on Schedule
-
-
- SHREWSBURY, MA -- December 23, 1992 -- Leaders within the U.S. Chapter
- of DECUS, the Digital Equipment Computer Users Society, this week
- announced that the organization's Fall Seminars and Symposium programs
- were a great success and that plans for the group's spring offerings,
- including the addition of a DECUS-sponsored trade show, are proceeding
- on schedule.
-
- Over 4,800 participants converged on the Las Vegas Convention
- Center, Las Vegas Hilton Hotel, and Alexis Park Resort December 5-11,
- to attend seminars and symposium sessions, and tour the Digital exhibit
- hall area.
-
- "The entire week was a great success for our attendees," noted
- Chapter President Margaret Knox. "The range of seminars and symposium
- sessions that were presented was a true reflection of the exciting and
- diverse industry in which we work."
-
- As in past seminars and symposia, the events provided a platform to
- exchange information between Digital and DECUS members. In a letter to
- attendees Digital President and CEO Robert Palmer stressed that DECUS
- continues to play a "vital role" in Digital's future. Palmer's message
- was reaffirmed by a midweek visit with attendees from Jack Smith,
- Digital's senior vice president of Operations.
-
- The focus of the weeklong event was truly open and multivendor
- oriented as speakers from such companies as Apple, Adobe Systems,
- Cognos, Ingres, Kubota Pacific, WordPerfect, Oracle, SmartStar,
- Information Builders, TGV, Ross Systems, SYBASE and many other
- organizations also presented both seminars and symposium sessions.
-
- The offerings presented by Digital officials covered virtually every
- area of Digital computing including a wide range of sessions on the
- Alpha AXP product line. A number of Alpha AXP machines were also
- featured on the exhibit hall floor and in Special Interest Group
- Campgrounds.
-
- Among the more popular non-Digital sessions were those given by
- Microsoft Corporation. A session on MS-DOS futures drew an audience of
- approximately 1,500, while a session on Windows NT drew an estimated
- 1,000 participants.
-
- The breadth of the event will continue to grow as next year's Spring
- Seminars and Symposium programs, which will be held at the Georgia
- World Congress Center, in Atlanta, Georgia, will also feature the debut
- of the first multivendor Trade Show at the DECUS Symposium. The Spring
- 1993 Seminars will be held June 5-6, followed by the Symposium program
- June 7-11. The Trade Show at the DECUS Symposium will be held June
- 8-10.
-
- DECUS, the Digital Equipment Computer Users Society, is currently in
- its 31st year of helping members and their organizations, to be more
- successful. There are over 52,000 members in the U.S. Chapter. DECUS
- members solve their Organization's computing problems and stay abreast
- of industry issues and emerging technologies with the aid of the
- Society's: national seminars and symposium programs; regional
- conferences; local seminars programs; Special Interest and Local Users
- Groups; electronic conferencing system; and public domain software
- library.
