  29. MAYNARD, Mass. -- December 22, 1992 -- Robert B. Palmer, President 
  30. and Chief Executive Officer of Digital Equipment Corporation, today 
  31. announced a restructuring of the company's operations into nine 
  32. business units to bring the company closer to its customers and add 
  33. momentum to Digital's return to profitable growth.

  35.      Palmer also named Digital senior managers to head five of the 
  36. nine business units, and announced that managers will be appointed 
  37. to lead the four other business units shortly.  All nine will report 
  38. directly to Palmer.

  40. The five appointed business unit leaders are:

  42.     Lawrence P. Cabrinety, Vice President, Components and 
  43.     Peripherals Business Unit
  44.  
  45.     Charles F. Christ, Vice President, Storage Business Unit
  46.  
  47.     Frank McCabe, Vice President, Discrete Manufacturing & Defense 
  48.     Industries Business Unit 
  49.  
  50.     John J. Rando, Vice President, Multivendor Customer Services 
  51.     Business Unit
  52.  
  53.     Willow B. Shire, Vice President, Health Industries Business Unit

  55. The units whose leaders will be appointed shortly are:

  59.     Financial, Professional and Public Services Industries Business

  62.     Communications, Education and Entertainment Industries Business

  68.      "These organizations will be responsible for understanding 
  69. customer needs and providing solutions to meet those needs," said 
  70. Palmer, who took over as Digital's President and CEO on October 1. 
  71. "Collectively, they will have all of Digital's worldwide profit 
  72. responsibility."

  74.      Five of the nine business units are defined by natural customer 
  75. groupings of industries.  "They include industries in which Digital 
  76. has been successful over the years, as well as industries targeted 
  77. for significant growth," noted Palmer.  They are Health Industries;  
  78. Discrete Manufacturing & Defense Industries; Communications, 
  79. Education and Entertainment Industries; Consumer and Process 
  80. Manufacturing Industries; and Financial, Professional and Public 
  81. Services Industries.

  83.      The other four units -- Personal Computers; Components and 
  84. Peripherals; Storage; and Multivendor Customer Services -- are 
  85. defined by the nature of their products and services.  "Each unit is 
  86. designed to better capitalize on Digital's core competencies and 
  87. leverage our technology in the marketplace," said Palmer.
