- . . . Nine business units created . . .

- MAYNARD, Mass. -- December 22, 1992 -- Robert B. Palmer, President
- and Chief Executive Officer of Digital Equipment Corporation, today
- announced a restructuring of the company's operations into nine
- business units to bring the company closer to its customers and add
- momentum to Digital's return to profitable growth.

- Palmer also named Digital senior managers to head five of the
- nine business units, and announced that managers will be appointed
- to lead the four other business units shortly. All nine will report
- directly to Palmer.

- The five appointed business unit leaders are:

- Lawrence P. Cabrinety, Vice President, Components and
- Peripherals Business Unit

- Charles F. Christ, Vice President, Storage Business Unit

- Frank McCabe, Vice President, Discrete Manufacturing & Defense
- Industries Business Unit

- John J. Rando, Vice President, Multivendor Customer Services
- Business Unit

- Willow B. Shire, Vice President, Health Industries Business Unit

- The units whose leaders will be appointed shortly are:

- Financial, Professional and Public Services Industries Business

- Consumer and Process Manufacturing Industries Business Unit

- "These organizations will be responsible for understanding
- customer needs and providing solutions to meet those needs," said
- Palmer, who took over as Digital's President and CEO on October 1.
- "Collectively, they will have all of Digital's worldwide profit
- responsibility."

- Five of the nine business units are defined by natural customer
- groupings of industries. "They include industries in which Digital
- has been successful over the years, as well as industries targeted
- for significant growth," noted Palmer. They are Health Industries;
- Discrete Manufacturing & Defense Industries; Communications,
- Education and Entertainment Industries; Consumer and Process
- Manufacturing Industries; and Financial, Professional and Public
- Services Industries.

- Peripherals; Storage; and Multivendor Customer Services -- are
- defined by the nature of their products and services. "Each unit is
- designed to better capitalize on Digital's core competencies and
- leverage our technology in the marketplace," said Palmer.
