  16. NESDB is a very important govt unit whose duties are to formulate 5-year
  17. National Plan, currently 7th, starting in 1992. Most govt's policies
  18. are based on this plan. Apart from this, most important infrastructures
  19. must get this agency's stamp of approval.
  20.         It is used widely during Anand's govt but ignored a lot during
  21. Chatichai govt whose ministers are known as buffet cabinet. The minister
  22. which criticised NESDB a lot during that time was Montri Pongpanich, Social
  23. Action Party leader, who used to be nicknamed by Government House reporters
  24. as Mr Mega-project. This minister created a stir during Chatichai govt by
  25. raising 33 million baht for making merits to various temples in his province,
  26. Ayutthaya.
  27.         Apart from NESDB, the Bank of Thailand (the central bank) and the TDRI
  28. (a private economic think tank very similar to Brooking Institute) are also
  29. noted for their economy's predictions.
