- CALL FOR PAPERS
- **************************************
- EIGHTH ANNUAL SYMPOSIUM ON
- ADULT DEVELOPMENT
-
- 25-27 JUNE 1993, UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS, AMHERST, MA
-
- Deadline for submission of papers is March 1, 1993
- ***************************************
-
- Each Adult Development Symposium consists of a gathering of
- individuals who share data, theory and experience. People from all
- disciplines interested in positive adult development participate. Based on
- the presentations, discussions and interchange, participants will have
- the opportunity to revise their papers for later publications.
-
- *Positive adult development* refers to development starting in late
- adolescence and continuing through life. The focus is on expanded
- capabilities and changes that improve the quality of life.
-
- This year we would like to encourage papers and posters on adult
- emotional development in addition to the theoretical and applied
- submissions we routinely receive.
-
- The symposium presents data and theory on development from many
- perspectives and traditions. For example: periods and seasons
- (Levinson); life periods (Erickson); whole-life approaches; epistemology
- and reflection (Perry); consciousness; clinical development; wisdom;
- expertise; life span; adult attachment; careers; stages and
- levels/domains are topics addressed. Additional topics relate to
- epistemology and mathematical-scientific development, as well as social,
- moral, ethical, ego, attachment, artistic, institutional, political and family
- issues.
-
- As has been the case since this series began in 1982, the conference will
- be attended by the major researchers in adult development. While many
- of the theoreticians also work in contexts in which they apply their
- theories, the conferences have not attracted people whose major work is
- applied rather than theoretical. This year we will extend invitations to
- practitioners who have an interest in adult development theory. There
- will be benefits to these adults in the workplace, in schools, in families,
- in communities or as individuals; they will become involved in the latest
- thinking about adult development and should come away from the
- conference with insights that will help them in their practice.
-
- For theoreticians, we see the following opportunities:
-
- - to share your ideas with other theoreticians through exchange of
- papers
- - to explore your ideas and others in a deeper way by relating them to
- daily life and its problems and opportunities
- - to explore the applications of your theories by working on significant
- problems with practitioners
