- It seems that I've posted this information before, but for clarity's sake,
- I'll do it again:

- Re: DNA testing. AT THIS TIME, THERE IS NO DEFINITIVE TEST TO DIFFERENTIATE
- A WOLF FROM A DOG!!! Dr. Robert Wayne, THE canid geneticist, at UCLA has been
- working like mad to try to develop/refine such a test, under the frantic
- urgings of a wide variety of groups, including wildlife officials, hybrid owners, cattle ranchers, etc.
-
- Not knowing the details of the case, I cannot provide any further insight into
- this particular investigation, but, if you're waiting for DNA fingerprinting to
- tell you if that critter is Canis lupus or Canis familiaris, you may be waiting
- awhile. What these tests might be looking for is whether or not said animal
- is related to any of the wolves in the surrounding area (ambiguous term), which
- DNA testing can do.
