- Science Fiction cons, to use a stereotype, basically attract weird people
- who are more tolerant of weirdness than "average" society is. Depending
- on the con there are usually folks dressed in costumes: SCA (Society
- for Creative Anachronism) people hang out in medieval or renaissance
- type garb, Star Trek fans might wear Trek uniforms, and so on. At some
- cons there are apparently folks from a.s.b. in wild SM regalia (alas,
- I've not been to many of these :-). And there's occasional crossdressers.
- So this year I went to ArmadilloCon (in Austin) in drag for the Saturday
- night dance. 'Twas my first public crossdressing, and it went well and fun.
- Even fooled a few people. (I'm tall and curveless, so most folks recognized
- me as a guy in drag, although some friends did not recognize me at least!)
- I know of other folks who used an SF con as their first public crossdressing
- adventure as well.
-
- (If you were curious about SF cons in general: there are panel discussions
- on various topics with authors, there are often role-playing games, a video
- room, a book dealers room, autograph sessions, authors reading works,
- art show, etc etc)
