  22. As I recall the name in dutch is actually 'Bilbo Balings', but that a small
  23. point (I don't have my LOTR at hand).

  25. I alway took 'Baggins' as being derived from 'bag' since I compared it to the
  26. name 'Balings'.  The name 'Balings' is then derived from the Dutch word 'baal'
  27. (meaning bag) in the same way as 'Baggins' is derived from bag.
  28. This is in my opinion also the reason for such translation: to keep the
  29. meaning for names that have one.

  31. There are other name translations, 'Strider' -> 'Stapper' to name one, but I
  32. can't recall any (it's been some time since I read the Dutch version).
