  13. A co-worker gave me a wonderful book of poems by his
  14. grandfather (who was one of the literary lights of the 1920's)
  15. and I found a poem in it which I would like to share with
  16. my friends here.  We here in California are no strangers to
  17. the fog and there have been days when I have felt the feelings
  18. this poem invokes.  Enjoy!

  20. The Veil of Fog
  21.  
  22. I can give welcome to a foggy day
  23. As freely, for the freshness of its change,
  24. As to the bravest blue and gold display
  25. That sunlight ever blazoned.  Is that strange?
  26. The softened brown, dim purple, muted green
  27. Whisper their secret to me in a smile
  28. With finger on the lips, more felt than seen
  29. The childlike reticence of innocent guile.
  30. The deepest joys of life, that most endure,
  31. Are half concealed within a floating veil,
  32. Awaiting our discovery.  Crystal pure,
  33. Outlasting time, their truth can never fail.
  34.     So does the fog instil the urge in me
  35.      To vision what no outward eye can see.
