- Note: I hope I have attributed the following quotes correctly.
-
- DR>>> The abortion issue really boils down to a question of CONTROL
- DR>>> and DOMINATION by rich, powerful white males, of women, to
- DR>>> continue
-
- DH>> The polls tend to indicate that 'rich, white males' support
- DH>> abortion rights much more so than the general population.
- DH>> If you want to generate a conspiracy theory, perhaps you
- DH>> should target some other group.
-
- DG> I think he might be talking about *really rich* white males, who,
- DG> since they don't consist of a large percentage of the population,
- DG> and since they aren't likely to be forthright anyway, aren't likely
- DG> to cause much of blip on your survey. However, since they own the
- DG> instruments of propaganda, they have the ability to make great masses
- DG> of other people, especially poorly educated and religious people,
- DG> hold the "correct" opinions.
-
- JC> "I think he is probably referring to the vote chasers, who happen
- JC> to be very rich white males. They read surveys like the one above
- JC> and consider how many votes they will get if they publically assert
- JC> an opinion for or against abortion. The fact that abortion is such
- JC> an emotive issue there would be many one issue voters for an anti-
- JC> abortion stance, whereas a vote-chaser may feel that pro-abortionist
- JC> may be less likely to be one issue voters, and therefore a pro-
- JC> abortion stance may be more profitable poll-wise. Jeff."

- Well, instead of speculating, let's ask him [me]! (Smile!)
-
- The posted Gallup Poll tells us that when presented with the question
- of whether abortion is "right" in all cases, special cases, or no
- cases, white rich males were most supportive of abortion, and non-
- white poor females were least supportive.
-
- Why do many non-whites, and specifically women, consider abortion to
- be "wrong" much more so than other groups, as a whole? My claim (which
- is totally unsupported by myself, but NOT unsupportable) is that there
- are forces which make these anti-abortion groups of people BELIEVE that
- it is "wrong," to keep said groups oppressed and poor.
-
- I could very well be wrong in this belief.
-
- Look to see who benefits by the anti-abortion stance. Unwanted
- children keeps the poor in poverty, and boosts the cheep unskilled
- labor force--- I can walk down the street here in Irvine California,
- to the corner of Jamboree and Lake Forest, and hire the Mexicans who
- wait there to do ANY kind of menial, back-breaking job by the day,
- for less than minimum wage, and they'll be damn glad to get the
- money!
-
- I went into an LA ghetto to defend the only health care clinic
- they have down there, as it was being attacked by the Christian
- hate group called The Vineyard (the same church where the pastors
- were later convicted of massive child molestation, beatings, and
- other abuses). All I saw of the anti-abortion leaders is rich,
- well-fed, white males, telling poor black and Mexican women and
- children (dressed in rags) that having children brings them
- closer to God, and abortion is "the devil's work." While there
- are Mexican-American women and African-American women who are
- anti-abortion and "leaders" in the anti-abortion cults, they let
- the white men do all the leading.
-
- [As an aside, the clinic offered not only family planning services,
- but also trama services for gun-shot wounds, mental health out-
- patience, and many other services--- things the Christian hate
- groups claim they support, but their rich white male leaders try
- so hard to shut down.]
-
- The extremist religious right seem to love fetuses, but hate people.
- Fetuses are innocent, but once they are born, into the slums, on
- welfare, well, then they are hated. Ever hear the phrase "The last
- time someone ever cared whether I lived or died was when I was a
- fetus"?
