- The problem here seems largely to do with what constitutes an answer or a
- response to the questions put to Mr. Bales. Bales seems to believe that he
- can answer a question by saying something like, "It is POSSIBLE that x" or
- "God could have done x" where x signifies some unspecified or vaguely
- characterized alternative to a real scientific hypothesis. Thus when Bales
- is asked to specify some evidence that counts against the evolutionary
- hypothesis, he says, "the fossil record". (This is a lot like saying
- "mathematics" when asked to cite evidence against the hypothesis that there
- are odd numbers).
-
- There is no doubt that Bales has failed to address numerous question put to
- him (even in the pathetic manner described above). There is no doubt that
- Bales has said things that are untrue. Whether he has deliberately said
- things that are untrue (lied) is a question I don't care much about. I'd
- still like Bales to address in a substantive way the ice core data, and the
- question as to just how, specifically, the theory of creationism (whatever
- THAT may be) can endure the scientific method.
