- I drove only autos for about 3 years, and then bought my first manual.
- I learned by myself. Yea, I was hard on it, stalled at lights a few
- times, but after a week or so, I was ok with it. It would have been
- nice to have had help tho.

- Arg. If you want engine braking while going down a hill with an auto, you
- do the same thing as with a manual, downshift. Why don't people seem to
- know this?
-
- Fun downhill story:
- I was coming down Loveland pass. (a steep, twisty 2 lane road in the
- Colorado mountains) In front of me was a Ford Taurus rental car.
- The person driving obviously didn't have a clue as to how to drive
- in the mountains. I had dropped my truck into 2nd (auto tranny)
- so that I didn't have use my brakes much (actually, if it hadn't
- been for the idiot in the Ford, I could have made it the whole
- way without brakes). This person drove the whole 3-4 miles with
- their foot on the brake! They'd almost stop everytime they got
- to a turn. I'm amazed that the brakes didn't fail; they stank by
- halfway down. I think that their should be a seperate license for
- driving in the mountains.
