  18. It's Monday November 9, and the sympathectomy I received on November
  19. 3 still has produced no relief.  However, I think the major side-effect
  20. is finally showing up.

  22. When I stand or sit with the leg un-elevated, the entire leg and foot
  23. turn a rosy-red and becomes warm and dry to the touch.  I guess I
  24. can at least say that the surgeon removed the right nerves!

  26. Yesterday I noticed one other minor side-effect.  There is an area
  27. about 3 inches wide by 5 inches high, just above the coccyx, that
  28. is completely numb.

  30. I mailed a letter today, to the chief neuro-surgeon at the Community
  31. Hospital Center for Pain Management, and a copy to the center's
  32. psychologist.

  34. The letter will either make me out to be a crazy fool, or it will
  35. accomplish its intended purpose.

  37. Monday of next week I will be having a "conference" with both of the
  38. above M.D.'s, and I thought a letter 1 week in advance would save
  39. us all a lot of time and rhetoric.

  41. Essentially, I have informed the doctors that I will pursue below-
  42. knee amputation, with or without their assistance.  I explained the
  43. logic that I used to arrive at this drastic decision, and told them
  44. in no uncertain terms that pain management is tantamount to "giving
  45. up" as far as I'm concerned.
  46.  
  47. This isn't to say that I have anything against those that choose it,
  48. because it serves a very important purpose when all other surgical
  49. "options" have been exhausted.
  50.  
  51. I dread the conference, and I'll be "pumping" myself up to face whatever
  52. opposition that they may present (then again, there may be none).
  53.  
  54. If they don't cooperate, then my "adventure" to find complete relief
  55. truly begins.
