- With all the _nots_ up there, I'll tell you what Unix is:
- Unix is a _religion_. Unix is a _way_of_life_. Many
- programmers would rather die than programming in something
- other than Unix. By definition, there is _nothing_ better
- than Unix ! If there _is_ something better, then, by
- definition, it's just an extension of Unix, but still
- Unix.
-
- So, like any religion, lets treat it that way. People
- may disagree, BUT PLEASE respect it.
-
- Some analogies: people often confuse the _celebration_
- (i.e., commercialization) of Christmas with Christianity.
- So some would flame Christmas, and blame Christianity for
- it. Well, some people often confuse _vi_ (i.e., application)
- with Unix. So some would flame _vi_, and blame Unix
- for it.
-
- Now, the 'IS UNIX DEAD' thread is getting way too long.
- People nowadays just don't have respect for others's
- religion anymore. I'm getting sick of going into the
- Unix newsgroups and read n-hundred-articles trying to
- figure out if Unix is dead. UNIX CAN'T DIE. Period.
-
- I'd suggest people eager to follow up to the 'IS UNIX
- DEAD' thread get together and make another newsgroup,
- like, alt.unix.may.be.dead, or, better yet,
- alt.religion.unix.heretics. Post there instead.
- Don't spread the blashphemy in comp. hierarchy.
-
-
- May Unix save your soul,
-
