- I have a VXL with daughter board, which is about the same size,
- occupies the same area as a MMR and an ICD Flicker Fixer 2 on my 500. The
- ICD unit is quite small, but even then it will not fit into the 500 with
- the VXL or MMR, or not very easily. The VXL/MMR hang over the socket a
- Flicker Fixer normally occupies in a 500. You remove the Denise and put it
- onto the ICD FF which then goes into the Denise socket, the whole assembly
- is about 3/4-1" high, the VXL sits about 1/2" off the motherboard. As you
- can see it will not work easily.
- What I did was take 4 24 pin sockets and 6" of a 48 pin ribbon
- cable and made an adaptor which brought the Denise Socket out from under
- the VXL(the Denise is a 48 pin chip, hence 2(2x24) sockets to make one 48
- pin socket and one 48 DIP adaptor).
- This allowed me to bring the socket out and use the ICD FF 2, but
- even then the space in the 500 is too crowded to allow the FF2 assemble to
- stay in the 500 without touching something else. But the 6" ribbon cable is
- enough to allow this assembly to hang out the back of the 500 case, just
- over the RGB Socket. It can be protected by a simple case made of plastic
- or heavy cardboard covered in a fine wire mesh(the mesh is a radiation
- shield, more to protect other things like TV's from interference).
- Hanging out the back of the 500 doesn't seem to bother it nor is
- it unstable, as a matter of fact it makes it easier to do fine tuning to
- the FF 2 this way.

- Cann't help you here, I use a 150 watt power supply, but it does
- not appear to a big power drainer, so it should work with the standard
- power supply as long as you aren't at the limit already, like extra
- floppies, HardDrives etc..

-
- I'm fuzzy on this too, but a standard Amiga frame(NTSC) is 262.5
- scan lines down, to display a frame with more then this you need to use
- interlace. In interlace you get two consecutive frames, one is a half scan
- line down from the other during the next scan. What happens is the first
- half scan starts to fade before the second starts, so that annoying flicker
- when your in interlace. A Flicker Fixer converts two a field interlaced
- frame into a single frame with a video signal at 31.5 Khz, twice the scan
- rate of your 1084, thus you need a new monitor to use a flicker fixer, one
- that scan from 15.75 to 31.5Khz, at least.
- Maybe some of the more knowledgable people reading can expand and
- correct me on what really happens.
