  11. If you've got a Power Computing PC880B and want to get an A1200, bad
  12. news I'm afraid:

  18. I got a brand new PC880B for my A500 in October, and was quite pleased
  19. with it (except for the fact that the Anti-Virus function is
  20. completely useless as it stops all writes to track 0, and Amiga writes
  21. a track at a time so valid write accesses to that track are made
  22. illegal!), and this month I got my A1200. They don't like each other!

  24. Perfectly valid disks are proclaimed to have a `read error' on them,
  25. cancelling the resulting requester multiple times often lets the data
  26. be read, and the disks work well in the internal drive (this happens
  27. for all disks OFS, FFS, OFS+DC, FFS+DC). Also the drive doesn't seem
  28. to like disk changes any more, often refusing to recognise a disk when
  29. you put it in, even if it is the same one that you just took out!

  31. I rung Power Computing yesterday, and they are aware of the problem,
  32. but, as yet, do not know the cause. They said to ring back at the end
  33. of next week and they may have a solution. They did not offer to swap
  34. the drive for a different model which does work...

  36. This applies only to the PC880B drive, other Power Drives without
  37. Blitz and Anti-Virus seem to work (I've tried the 'Economy' drive), so
  38. it must be a problem with Blitz or Anti-Virus (even though they are
  39. turned off). There is a socketed chip in the drive, which probably has
  40. the extra `stuff' on it, so it is possible that you could get a
  41. replacement for that; it looks likely to cost you though!

  43. This must really have Power Computing in a panic since the PC880B is
  44. possibly the most popular drive for the Amiga, and probably their
  45. biggest earner.
