- RM> I plan to install OS/2 2.0 on my system in days. I need to
- RM>know this: if I install it with the FAT arrangement, and using the
- RM>Boot Manager so I have the choice of DOS or OS/2, can the hard disk I
- RM>install it on have stuff on it prior to my full install? In other
- RM>words, can I put a bunch of junk on it, and then put OS/2 along with
- RM>that other junk?
-
- Yes.
-
-
- RM>Perhaps I need to use FDISK to make some
- RM>partitions, huh? If so, somebody post me a good partitioning scheme
- RM>to use. Thanks.
-
- Make sure that:
-
- - if you use Boot Manager, make your DOS partition the first physical
- partition on the disk (after Boot Manager, if you like, or place Boot
- Manager at the END) - and it must be a PRIMARY partition;
- - if you use Boot Manager, make the OS/2 bootable (installable) partition a
- LOGICAL one (secondary);
- - you probably won't want to use HPFS for any OS/2 partitions less than some
- 60 MB - use FAT instead.
-
- For your information, here's my layout.
- NAME STATUS ACCESS TYPE MBYTES
- ---- ------ ------ ---- ------
- Dos v5 Bootable C:Primary FAT 2
- None D:Logical FAT 40
- None E:Logical FAT 60
- None F:Logical FAT 60
- None G:Logical FAT 44
- Os2 v2 Bootable H:Logical HPFS 110
- Os2 mtce Bootable I:Logical FAT 2
- Startable :Primary BOOT MANAGER 1
-
- The "Os2 mtce" partition is an independently bootable OS/2 partition which I
- use for disk maintenance, replacing DLL files, etc. It's much faster than
- booting from floppy.
