- It shouldn't even connect AT ALL to a "Trailblazer", since
- Trailblazers had only DAMQAM/PEP. You must actually be talking to a
- Trailblazer Plus, which also has V.22bis.

-
- As it should be. You'll find that nobody but Telebit talks PEP, and
- nobody but USR talks HST. PEP and HST are proprietary protocols,
- implemented only by the respective companies. The same would be
- true if you tried to call an MNP6 modem, a Hayes V-series 9600 (with
- only Express 96), or any of the many other modems which have only
- proprietary modulation schemes above 2400bps.

-
- I don't speak for them, but the answer is most likely "never".
-
- There is no motivation for companies to implement the proprietary
- modulation schemes of their competitors. There might have been a
- motivation at one time, if we hadn't, as an industry, figured out
- how to make echo cancellers cheap and effective and V.32/V.32bis
- modems still cost over $2,000. That's not the case, though, and the
- cost in engineering and patent licensing to do PEP, HST, or other
- proprietary modulations simply isn't worth the effort.
-
- Instead, you should encourage those sites with only Trailblazers to
- upgrade to real standard high-speed modems. If they insist they
- need PEP, they can upgrade to a T3000 or WorldBlazer; otherwise,
- they could upgrade to any of the many high-quality low-price V.32bis
- modems on the market. You are quite unlikely to have any success
- trying to cajole Intel into implementing PEP.
