- Yes, however you _were_ a student. My biggest mistake (students
- take note!) was that, my senior year, when everybody in the world
- wanted to give me a credit card, I ignored all the applications.
- Two years after graduation, when I decided it'd be handy, I started applying
- for cards. Well, with only a 2 year employment history (with 2 different
- employers, since my university position funding ran out), less than
- 2 years at my current address, and _no_ credit history good or bad,
- _nobody_ wanted to give me a card. Finally got a gas card, and
- started from there. There were other credit checks, yes,
- but the number of checks was not a reason until after Discover ran the
- second check - it was not listed on the first rejection.
-
- Students: When you start getting bombarded - apply for every card
- you're offered. Watch the interest rates, and don't use the outrageous
- ones unless you're going to pay them off. But as a near-future college
- graduate, you'll have an easier time getting credit, and hence establishing
- a credit history, now than you ever will the rest of your life.
