  1. ===GETTING STARTED======================================================

  3.   This section covers everything you need to know to set up and start 3-D
  4.   Dinosaur Adventure on your computer.
  5.   
  6.   What do I need?
  7.   
  8.   To run 3-D Dinosaur Adventure, you will need the following:
  9.   
  10.   - An IBM(r) or compatible computer.  A 386 processor is required, and
  11.     a 486 processor is recommended.
  12.   
  13.   - A color VGA or SVGA monitor.
  14.   
  15.   - A CD-ROM drive that supports ISO 9660.
  16.   
  17.   - A hard disk with at least 5.6 megabytes of available disk space. 
  18.     (If the disk is compressed with Stacker or DoubleSpace, at least
  19.      11.2 megabytes must be free.)
  20.   
  21.   - Approximately 520 kilobytes of available RAM.
  22.   
  23.   - A mouse (recommended); the software can also be run using the
  24.     keyboard alone.
  25.   
  26.   - A Creative Labs SoundBlaster 16.  3-D Dinosaur Adventure also supports 
  27.     the optional WaveBlaster.
  28.  
  29.   - A printer (optional) so that you can print 3-D Dinosaur Adventure text
  30.     files; any printer that can accept ASCII text directly from your
  31.     computer port will work.
  32.   
  33.   - The original 3-D Dinosaur Adventure compact disk.
  34.   
  35.   How do I install the program?
  36.   
  37.   Follow these steps to install 3-D Dinosaur Adventure on your system:
  38.   
  39.   1.  Insert the 3-D Dinosaur Adventure compact disk into your CD-ROM drive
  40.      and switch to that drive.  For example, if your CD-ROM drive is F,
  41.      type:
  42.   
  43.        F: and press <Enter>
  44.   
  45.   2.  Type:
  46.   
  47.        INSTALL and press <Enter>
  48.   
  49.   3.  Follow the messages on the screen until the installation is complete.
  50.   
  51.   The Install program will ask you where on your hard drive you'd like to
  52.   store the appropriate 3-D Dinosaur Adventure files, what sound device
  53.   you have, and whether or not you'd like to run under Microsoft
  54.   Windows(r).  If necessary, your CONFIG.SYS file will be altered so that
  55.   FILES=20 or greater and your original CONFIG.SYS file will be saved to
  56.   CONFIG.BKA.  You will also be asked to decide how much disk space 3-D
  57.   Dinosaur Adventure will take up on your hard drive.  The more 3-D
  58.   Dinosaur Adventure files you store on your hard drive, the faster the
  59.   program will run.

  61.   NOTE: If you have difficulty installing 3-D Dinosaur Adventure, turn to
  62.   "About installation."

  64.   Running under Windows
  65.   
  66.   If you answered YES to the question about running under Microsoft
  67.   Windows(r) when you installed 3-D Dinosaur Adventure, a new program
  68.   group called Knowledge Adventure has been created for your system.  It
  69.   contains 3-D Dinosaur Adventure, Read Me, and 3-D Dinosaur Adventure
  70.   Config icons.  Double-click on the 3-D Dinosaur Adventure icon to start
  71.   the program.  Double-click on the Read Me icon to see the latest
  72.   information about 3-D Dinosaur Adventure.  Double-click on the 3-D
  73.   Dinosaur Adventure Config icon to edit the configuration file.  See
  74.   "About program defaults" for more information about the 3-D Dinosaur
  75.   Adventure configuration.

  77.   NOTE: You'll find that the following statement has been added to the
  78.   [386ENH] section of your SYSTEM.INI file:
  79.   
  80.        DMABUFFERSIZE=150
  81.   
  82.   Your original SYSTEM.INI and WIN.INI files are saved to the files 
  83.   SYSTEM.BKA and WIN.BKA.

  85.   How do I begin?
  86.   
  87.   To start 3-D Dinosaur Adventure, follow these steps:
  88.   
  89.   1.  Change to the directory on your hard drive containing the 3-D Dinosaur
  90.      Adventure files.  For example, to switch to the C:\DINO3D directory,
  91.      type:
  92.   
  93.        C: and press <Enter>
  94.        CD\DINO3D and press <Enter>
  95.   
  96.   2.  Then, to start the program, type:

  98.        DINO3D and press <Enter>

  100.   NOTE: If you have difficulty starting 3-D Dinosaur Adventure, turn to
  101.   "About startup."
