CTS IRQInfo OEM.DOC
This file contains important information regarding OEM versions of the
CTS IRQInfo and Serial Port Utilities. This information applies to
any individual or organization, including hardware and software
manufacturers who wish to distribute any or all of the programs
included in the CTS IRQInfo or Serial Port Utilities via any "hard
medium" (including, but not limited to optical or magnetic medium
including disk, diskette, CD-ROM or tape) for use in installing,
operating, troubleshooting or supporting any product or service
provided by the individual or organization.
+-----------------------------------------------------------------+
Announcing Special Versions of IRQInfo and PortInfo for OEM and
Software Providers
+-----------------------------------------------------------------+
IRQInfo and IRQInfo PRO are available for licensing and
customization for use as hardware installation utilities for those
computers which do not support "plug and play".
+-------------------+
IRQInfo Installer
+-------------------+
IRQInfo Installer creates a simple comma-delimited file that indicates
the used and available IRQs (Interrupt ReQuest lines) in any computer.
IRQInfo Installer can be run from the DOS prompt, a batch file or
shelled to by any DOS application to identify the serial ports and
modems. Your application can process the data file created by PortInfo
Installer to automatically configure itself for the computer it is
being installed on.
CTS, Inc. will be happy to provide a quote on providing a complete
custom installation program designed to your specifications for any
hardware or software product.
+---------------------------------------------+
PortInfo for Customer Support (PortInfo-CS)
+---------------------------------------------+
PortInfo-CS is a slightly modified version of PortInfo that improves
on-site and remote customer support. PortInfo-CS runs without entry of
any "command line" parameters and requires no user interaction to
perform the complete serial port conflict and modem test. PortInfo-CS
automatically creates the standard PORTINFO.LOG file that can be
printed, faxed, emailed or read to you over the phone.
The standard PortInfo product is modified as follows to create
"PortInfo-CS":
* The Program Title will indicate that this is a version licensed
to your organization:
* PortInfo-CS will have only three commands: "PortInfo", "PortInfo
/P" and "PortInfo /?"
* The command "PortInfo" will cause PortInfo-CS to perform a
complete conflict and modem test on all ports without user
interaction. A PORTINFO.LOG file will be created, and all modem
tests will be performed.
* Two different modes of operation are available:
1) No user interaction ("press any key to continue" ) is
required. This is desirable when capturing the output to a file
for transmission to your location; or
2) The user must "press any key" to move to the next screen. This
is often the best approach when using PortInfo-CS for telephone
support.
One mode is selected by you as the default operation. The other
mode will be activated if PortInfo-CS is run with the "/P"
command.
* The command "PortInfo /?" will display an information screen
which contains licensing and contact information for your
organization and an "about CTS Inc." message.
Three optional add-ons are also available:
* The "Windows Check" module allows PortInfo-CS to compare the
actual serial ports in the computer system with the BIOS table
and the Windows SYSTEM.INI file to verify that all port addresses
and IRQs are set correctly for Windows operation.
* The "Modem Response" module will capture the modem identification
responses (ATIn commands) to the PORTINFO.LOG file.
* The AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files can be included within the
PORTINFO.LOG file for transmission to your location.
Availability & Customization Time
---------------------------------
PortInfo-CS is available now. Delivery time from date of order is a
maximum of 10 business days for standard versions and options.
+--------------------+
PortInfo Installer
+--------------------+
PortInfo Installer simplifies communication software installation by
providing accurate information about the Com Ports in an easy to use
format. PortInfo Installer accurately detects all critical parameters
about the Com Ports - including port address, UART type and IRQ used,
and can also determine if Windows is set up to use the port properly.
PortInfo Installer creates a comma-delimited file containing:
Com Port # (1-4)
Port Address
Port Type (8250, 8250A/16450, 16550, 16550A, 16650 and 16750)
Actual IRQ used by the port
BIOS, DOS and Windows use of port
Device Detected (Modem, mouse, other)
Port Status (Good / Warning / Failure)
Windows Port Setup Correct (True/False)
PortInfo Installer runs from the DOS prompt, a batch file or can be
shelled to by any DOS application.
