  6. PROBLEM:       A customer was upgrading from NetWare 386 v3.0 to v3.1.  He
  7.                was following the instructions step-by-step and everything
  8.                seemed to go fine until he loaded the INSTALL NLM.  Upon
  9.                loading INSTALL he received the following error:

  11.                Loader cannot find public symbol:  DosClose
  12.                Loader cannot find public symbol:  SaveMirrorList
  13.                Loader cannot find .................
  14.                .    Many other similar errors occur
  15.                .    referencing different public symbols
  16.  
  17.                Load file referenced undefined public variable.
  18.                Module INSTALL.NLM not loaded.
  19.  
  20. SOLUTION:      We were wondering if the customer was loading the wrong
  21.                INSTALL.NLM, so we loaded a v3.1 SERVER on a machine in the
  22.                lab.  When we tried to load a v3.0 INSTALL.NLM, we
  23.                duplicated the errors.  The problem the customer ran into is
  24.                that the volume was mounted and the load loaded off the
  25.                mounted SYS: volume.  The load will load off the mounted
  26.                SYS: volume unless told to load from the DOS side.

  28.                The bottom line is that these errors occur when people try
  29.                to load v3.0 NLMS with a v3.1 SERVER running.

  31.                You will also get these same type errors if you are trying
  32.                to do the upgrade and load the old SERVER.EXE.
