- Question:
- How are the PCSA files stored on the VAX? I know they use a
- "virtual volume" and as I understood it, it is NOT compatible
- with standard VMR/RMS files and therefore, only PCSA users can
- get at them (unlike NetWare VMS). Is this true?
-
- Answer:
- PCSA has the capacity to store files in either Virtual RMS format as we do
- or in a container file format. The container file format means all the
- DOS files are really one big RMS file. I believe there are
- utilities to access the files from a VT. The main reason for
- offering both formats is flexibility and performance. The container method
- allows faster file transfer, but no file locking or easy virtual
- file access.
