  17. Q. I've found a problem with the WIN-OS/2 printer driver that I'm
  18. using with my printer?
  19. How do I get an updated version of the driver?
  20.  
  21. A. The WIN-OS/2 drivers were not written by IBM, but are licensed for
  22. inclusion in OS/2. If you need a driver update IBM might be able to obtain
  23. it for you, but you'll get it much quicker if you contact the supplier
  24. directly.

  26. Q. How do I run WIN-OS/2 in real mode? Can I run WIN-OS/2 in 386
  27. enhanced mode?
  28.  
  29. A. Type 'winos2 /r' from an OS/2 'DOS Full Screen' session, or put '/r' in
  30. the parameters held for an OS/2 shell object. WIN-OS/2 doesn't support
  31. enhanced mode and applications that require enhanced mode will not run.

  33. Q. Why won't ScanMan and FotoTouch run under WIN-OS/2?
  34.  
  35. A. They both make a 4B interrupt call to create a DOS thread. This isn't
  36. currently supported.

  38. Logitech scanning hardware is normally used by WIN-OS/2 applications
  39. running in real mode. Note that Ansel (Fototouch's predecessor) will work
  40. in real mode.

  42. Q. I get DOS Error 5 when I try to run some of my Windows
  43. applications under WIN-OS/2? What do I do?
  44.  
  45. A. Boot from OS/2 boot disk, insert disk 1 when prompted. When you get
  46. OS/2 Welcome screen press ESC. Insert disk 2 and type A:CHKDSK C: /F
  47. (FAT) or /F:3 (HPFS) where 'C:' is the drive OS/2 was installed to. Repeat
  48. CHKDSK until it runs without any errors.

  50. Q. How do I start multiple WIN-OS/2 applications from the same OS/2
  51. desktop icon?
  52.  
  53. A. Drag a program object from the Templates folder. Set Program to '*',
  54. set Path to full path names separated by commas for programs that you
  55. want to start. See Master Help Index - WIN-OS/2 for more information.
  56. First program listed is incorrectly started twice.

  58. Q. I have the Canadian version of WordPerfect 5.1, how do I run
  59. FIXWP?
  60.  
  61. A. FIXWP (see OS/2 readme) doesn't work for the Canadian version. Call
  62. WordPerfect and ask for interim release.

  64. Q. SHIFT-ESC doesn't seem to do anything under WIN-OS/2. This
  65. means certain programs (see Attachmate under Applications) can't be
  66. run. Is there a fix?
  67.  
  68. A. A keyboard bypass option for SHIFT-ESC needs to be added to WIN-
  69. OS/2 and DOS settings for CUA (Common User Access) compatibility.

  71. Q. I Get FATAL ERROR 0X0401 trying to start a Windows
  72. application in a WIN-OS/2 session. What's the fix?
  73.  
  74. A. This problem is caused by one or more of the drivers or font files listed
  75. in the WIN-OS/2 SYSTEM.INI or WIN.INI file being absent or not
  76. loading correctly. This can happen if the application migration/installation
  77. was incomplete/incorrect. Check device statements, or re-install
  78. application from WIN-OS/2 Full Screen.

  80. This error has also occurred on systems running in XGA or 8514 video
  81. mode when an application tries to use large fonts. It might be necessary to
  82. modify the WIN-OS/2 SYSTEM.INI file as follows; fonts.fon= xgasys.fon,
  83. fixedfon.fon= xgafix.fon, oemfonts.fon= xgaoem.fon.

  85. Q. I have an 8514 display and am having trouble using DDE with
  86. WIN-OS/2. What's the fix?
  87.  
  88. A. If you have an 8514 display use DOS Settings to set
  89. VIDEO_8514A_XGA_IOTRAP to Off and
  90. VIDEO_SWITCH_NOTIFICATION to On.

  92. Q. Data I put in the OS/2 clipboard doesn't show up in the WIN-OS/2
  93. clipboard. What could be causing this?
  94.  
  95. A. Because of the particular data format there may be a rendering problem
  96. that prevents the reception of the data from the WIN-OS/2 clipboard by the
  97. WIN-OS/2 application. A private data format used by one application
  98. could be unusable by another.

  100. Q. I'm using the EPSON.DRV WIN-OS/2 printer driver and I get
  101. duplicate form feeds, can I disable form feeds?
  102.  
  103. A. The EPSON.DRV driver doesn't provide disable form feed or intelligent
  104. form feed options. If this causes you a problem you'll need to select another
  105. driver that works for your printer.
  106.  
  107. Q. Every few pages my HP DeskJet 500C color printer prints a whole
  108. page condensed to slightly more than 'thumbnail' size. How can I fix
  109. this?
  110.  
  111. A. You need to add [STATDLL] override=y to WIN-OS/2 WIN.INI file.
  112. Read the read.me file for your DeskJet printer. This file is located on the
  113. first of the DeskJet driver installation diskettes.

  115. Q. Sometimes when I switch sessions from the OS/2 Desktop back to
  116. WIN-OS/2 using the ALT-ESC option I find that I have no mouse
  117. pointer. Is this a known problem?
  118.  
  119. A. This problem has been reported and logged. Simply repeat the ALT-
  120. ESC sequence to recover the pointer.

  122. MAIN SECTION

  127. Q. I selected Setup - Options from WIN-OS/2 MAIN in WIN-OS/2 Full
  128. Screen and get a list of options including No Network Installed.
  129. Which option should I select?
  130.  
  131. A. Unless you are using a DOS-based LAN requestor (rather than an
  132. OS/2 based LAN requestor) you should select option No Network Installed.
  133. The only other valid option listed is IBM PC LAN Program. All the
  134. other options were included in error and should be ignored. These
  135. options can be got rid of (by editing the SETUP.INF file in
  136. \OS2\MDOS\WINOS2\SYSTEM directory). In most cases, users should not
  137. try to do this.

  139. Q. What do I need to do to get Rumba for Windows working under WIN-OS/2?
  140.  
  141. A. Rumba may have problems when running in the background due to some
  142. INT 28 handling done in DOS emulation. Currently it is best to run in
  143. VMBOOT session to avoid this problem.

  145. Q. Are there any reasons why my old Windows communcications packages
  146. won't run under WIN-OS/2?
  147.  
  148. A. All WIN-OS/2 applications run in OS/2 VDMs (virtual DOS machines).
  149. VDMs support a maximum of 1000 interrupts per second and this causes
  150. problems for many communications packages running at higher baud rates.
  151. If you are having problems, try reducing the baud rate if this option
  152. is available for your application.

  154. Q. Does WIN-OS/2 include named pipe support? What applications
  155. require this?
  156.  
  157. A. A fix which includes a correct implementation of named pipes is
  158. available. An integrated DOS kernel which includes this
  159. fix is expected to be available in the OS/2 service pack being
  160. prepared for release this fall.
  161.  
  162. Some DOS and Windows applications use named pipes for access to
  163. Microsoft/Sybase SQL Servers. These applications also require that
  164. the file NETAPI.DLL for 'LAN Server' or 'LAN Manager' networks,
  165. or the equivalent for other networks, is accessible via the appropriate
  166. path statement.
