There are a number of pieces of software which
are essential to making the best possible use of the Internet (including
email), and the files that you download. Some of this software is
free; some is free for domestic use; and some is shareware (you
are asked to register and pay for your use of the software if you
keep it on your system). All the software packages we recommend
have robust and friendly installation and uninstallation routines
- and they are popular because they work and are easy to use.
Because of space limitations, this version of the 1DO3 Offline CD
contains only Acrobat Reader - which is essential for reading the
1DO3 directory, "Things
you can DO on the Internet."
Click on the product name to install the software. This software
is stored on your CD. When you click on the product name you will
see a screen similar to the one below. Click on the Open button
to install the software.
Adobe Acrobat Reader |
Many documents on the web (and in email
attachments) are offered in Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) format. This
file format preserves the publisher's design and typography
and offers users the best possible printout of a document -
though with the penalty of a significantly longer download time.
On many sites you have the option of browsing content in web
(.html) format and downloading a .pdf version if you want a
high quality paper version of the content. |
