In campaign mode these are the thing you want to pick up.
Green metal scraps are worth 4 credits each.
Blue metal scraps are worth 8 credits each .
Purple metal scraps are worth 6 credits each.
These will let you buy upgrades at your base.
In multiplayer and arcade mode destroying asteroids gives you bonuses or maluses instead of metal scraps. Furthermore, when you blow up in campaing mode, you can have back part of the upgrades you bought by getting back the bonuses that will fly away from the explosion.

Twin Meson
The primary weapon of any ship. This gun produces 2 meson projectiles with each use, but producing mesons causes heat. This gun is decent for beginner pilots, but no veteran pilot could be seen using one of these. For those whom have problems with aiming it is equipped with a spread of 2, which means it will releasing 4 weaker meson particles; the total power is not greater when spreaded, there is only more fire span. This gun's maximum power is somewhat low.
Zigzag Gun
The Zigzag gun uses cooled-down meson particles, and it produces 3 meson particle with each shot. The problem with cooled-down mesons is that they are not stable; in crude words. it does not go in a straight line when fired. This gun comes equipped with a spread of 3, it can be quite deadly since it releases (3*3) 9 meson particles each time at maximum spread. If you do not have the knack for targeting, this might be your gun. Once you learn how to use the zigzag effect of this gun you will be able to rely on it. Cooled-down mesons were supposed to reduce heat but in fact the firing systems required to throw them at relatively high speed negates the cooling (which means that it will overheat). Again, as a Meson gun its maximum power is somewhat low.
Electric Beam
The Electric beam gun releases beams of electricity. It got a spread of 3 that makes it a good beginner's gun. If you ever learn how to use this gun with no spread, you will be quite deadly. Electric guns do overheat but they cool down rapidly.
Electric
The electric gun releases a wall of electric sparks. It is usually viewed as a pretty darn gun, as it has good firepower at all levels of enhancement, does not overheat much and is relatively easy to use.
Fire
The fire gunsà Aaah. They pack a punch! As any fire gun it overheats, but you usually destroyed the opponent before that becomes too much of a problem. This gun is equipped with what we call gangfire, it releases many small bullets at the same time, producing a wave. The gangfire of this gun is much tighter than the Stormfire but still enough to provide easy targeting.
Pulse
The pulse gun starts as a small, useless weapon, but once you start to upgrade it, it will surprise you with its capabilities. The Pulse is a fast weapon, you press the trigger, the target blows apart! The spread of this weapon goes up with its strength. If you have the money to upgrade it, this is a very good gun.
Seeking Sphere
This weapon was originally designed as a mining tool. It automatically targets and seeks large asteroids masses, thus it is extremely good against asteroids but very poor against UFOs since it will tend to deviate from its path. Some of the greatest pilots of all times have used this gun successfully, the trick they used was to bring missiles with them to deal with UFO presence. Once you learn the tactics to use with this gun you may never be able to change.
Snow Storm
The Snow Storm weapon was developed recently; its strength is that it does not overheat (well, maybe a little). This weapon starts with a spread of 3, which you should use immediately. If you do not have any money to upgrade it you should maybe think it over before buying ità Once upgraded it is a very effective weapon, but it starts really weak.
Pinky Seek
As the seeking sphere, the Pinky Seek was a mining tool, and it automatically targets asteroids. One way or another this gun releases so many bullets that it can't help but be useful. You have to learn how to use it but once you do, it is quite a good gun.
Fire blast
The newest entry in the Fire gun family, the Fire Blast. This gun has a ridiculously low rate of fire, but if you hit your target (and that is not hard to do!) it will do a lot of damage! As the name implies, it releases a bunch of fire bullets; indeed, all your forward vision will be filled with fireballs. Obviously, the overheat of this gun is monstrous.
Laser
This gun is reserved to really good pilots. It is like a scalpel, if you hit something then it is usually sliced in two; the problem is to hit something with this. It fires a thin (really thin) beam of light. It IS really powerfulà if put in good hands.
Stormfire
The nec plus ultra of the fire gunsà Imagine sending wave after wave of burning fire to the enemy! Humà Wellà This gun features a gangfire that is at the same time tight enough to cause heavy damage and broad enough for easy targeting. This, combined with a good rate of fire, make the Stormfire a very powerful weapon, but like any fire gun it overheats rapidly.
All the Missiles are fire and forget. You select the target they will follow with the + and - key on your console (keyboard).
Standard SMI
Standard Military Issue missiles. They have a relatively short range and have a limited explosive charge.
Defender AMB-1
This is a special type of missile; it is in fact an anti-missile weapon. It creates a ring of bullets around your ship.
Lynx LR-1 & Tiger LR-2
The Lynx and Tiger Long Range missiles. These are probably the best missiles money can buy; they have great range and good speed. I tell you, they are worth the money.
Cobra SR-1 & Python SR-2
Cobra and Python Short Range missiles. Their range is limited since the fuel was replaced by explosivesà you see what I mean?
Special XZ-1 & Special XZ-2
These are experimental missiles, the XZ-1 release 3 missiles for 1 use and the XZ-2 releases 4. They have not been fully tested yet but a thing is sure, they DO pack a punch!
Torpedoes automatically target any large mass object. They do not target UFOs, but they will target an outpost. All torpedoes, except the knocker, open when near a target and release their payload.
Knocker
Blow any rock to pieces. Standard on all ships, the knocker quickly deals with big asteroids.
Fire breath
The Fire Breath Torpedo explodes on impact, it is at first tricky to use but once you get the hang of ità
Annihilator
Well this is THE torpedo if ever there was one! It releases seeking spheres and destroys anything! Okay they may seem overpriced, but I tell you, once you start using them you'll stick with those babies...
MIRV-1
Multiple warheads, this baby opens and releases a pack of missiles on the target.
Dragon breath
Or baby nuke. They explode upon impact, creating quite a burst.
MIRV-2
Multiple warheads, as the MIRV-1 but with bigger missiles.
The Turrets automatically target the nearest enemy (asteroids or UFO) and open fire. They carry a limited number of ammunition and once they are out, they will self-destruct.
The mines just stand there waiting for an enemy or asteroid to pass near. Should that happen they explode, blowing the enemy to pieces (reducing themselves to ashes by the same occasion).
S-Turret1
S for Standing, it is a Turret, once released it stand there and fires at anything approaching. This one is armed with a twin meson cannon.
Mine ME5 & Mine ME6
A mine, anything comes near and it explodes; good for those nasty following UFOs. The ME6 is the upgraded model, with more firepower.
Fire Turret
Another turret, this one equipped with the fire gun, it is more effective than the S-turret1 but has very limited ammunition.
Sphere turret
As turret goes this is the best you can buy! The bullets as seeking spheres, they do A LOT of damage. Unfortunately they are not so useful against UFOs.
