Possible problems during the update

When you update the Active Virus Shield program modules or threat signatures, errors can occur due to incorrect update configurations, connection problems, and other factors. This Help section covers the majority of errors and gives tips for eliminating them.

Error 0x89478001 û protocol not supported.

This error occurs if the data transfer protocol for program updates is incorrect. For example, if you accidentally entered the address of a HTTPS server instead of an HTTP server when adding an update source. Make sure that the update settings are correct.

Error 0x89477007 û protocol not supported.

The program returns this error if the operating system does not support the data transfer protocol used for updates. For example, you might encounter this error if TCP/IP is not installed on your system.

Error 0x89478002 û file not found.

This error occurs if there are any files on the update list that are not on the update source.

Error 0x89478003 û authorization error on proxy server.

If, in configuring the program to update through a proxy server, you entered an incorrect name or password, the program will return this error. Edit the authorization settings and try to update the program again.

Error 0x89478004 û protocol error.

If all files downloaded on your computer are filtered by, for example, a firewall installed on it, a portion of the contents of any file could be changed. This pertains to the program updates you download as well. If this occurs, you will see this error message on the screen.

Error 0x89477001 û system not initialized.

This error occurs if you try to begin program updates and the update component is not running. Find out why the component is not working (it is possible that your program license has expired).

Error 0x89477002 û not connected to network.

If you receive this error, check your computerÆs network connection.

Error 0x894770013 û network not found.

If you receive this error, check your computerÆs network connection.

Error 0x99480009 û network not available.

If you receive this error, check your computerÆs network connection.

Error 0x89477004 û operation in progress.

If you try to run the update process while the process is already running (for example, you started the update from the programÆs context menu, and without waiting for it to finish you try to update the program from the command prompt), the screen will display this error message. Wait for the procedure to finish, and if necessary run it again.

Error 0x89477005 û too many files open.

The program returns this error if there are not enough system resources to update the program. As a rule this means that too many files were open on your computer when you attempted to start the update. Close any applications you have open and try to update the program again.

Error 0x8947700C û resource temporarily unavailable.

This error means that the source for program updates that you tried to contact is currently unavailable. This could be because, for example, your computer is not connected to the network or there are programs accessing the network resource where the program updates are located.

Error 0x89477014 û connection timed out.

When configuring the programÆs update settings, you may have set a low time-out value for the connection with the update source. If your computer cannot connect to the server or the update folder within that time, the program returns this error. We recommend increasing the time-out value.

Error 0x89477018 û the program terminated the connection.

If you have to restart your computer because of a certain application (for example, you installed a program that requires the system to be rebooted, and you chose to restart the computer right now), all applications running will close.

This also applies to Active Virus Shield. If the program is updating when this happens, it will be forced to close, and this error will be recorded in the component report. Unfortunately, the program cannot always resume the update where it left off, and you may have to download and install a number of files over again. This increases the amount of downloads. Therefore, we recommend not using applications that might require you to restart the computer while updating the program.

Error 0x89477019 û connection terminated by the server.

This error occurs when the connection with the update source is terminated by the update server for any reason. Try using a different update source or contact AOL Technical Support with this error message.

Error 0x89477020 û no connection with the update source.

This error as a rule occurs if you entered an incorrect address when adding an update source. Check the address.

Error 0x89475001 û updates only partially installed.

This error message arises when only part of the files are downloaded and installed on your computer when you update it. This could occur because the update source does not contain the complete set of files or because the connection with the source was lost. We recommend rolling back program updates and trying to update again after some time has elapsed or from another update source.

Error 0x80000046 û incorrectly entered update settings.

If you entered any settings incorrectly when you configured updates, your screen will display this error message. Check and correct the update settings and attempt to update the program again.
