For ExcelFIX to bind all the texts in one list the user must be able to bind one text to its cell.

The cell before it is bound will be labelled as "[Lost string]". The reference number of the text appears next to the label. E.g. A cell referencing to text #37 will appear as follows: "[Lost string #37] ".

There are different ways to know how cells labelled as "[Lost string]" correspond to a given text. The user must have a partial recollection of the original file. Based on the surrounding cells of a cell labelled as "[Lost string]" we may guess what first text to bind.

Some tips to identify a "Lost string" cell

  • A title is usually at the top of each sheet. If you can remember a title and its placement you will have half the work done. Try different title texts and bind them to different cells until you find the correct match.

  • Many cells contain the same text. If many cells contained exactly the same text, they will all have the same reference number. Based on this, and on the uncorrupted surrounding cells, it is possible to successfully bind the text with any of its corresponding cells.
