Basic settings for flatbed scanners

With some scanner models, image smoothening is needed to recognize color and greyscale images successfully.

Basic settings for digital cameras

Enable the option Digital Camera when the images are acquired using a digital camera.

Enable the option Process as 300 dpi.

With digital cameras, the image resolution is unknown. Thanks to this option, the images will be processed ônormallyö, as if they had a 300 dpi resolution. (You also avoid a warning that youÆre submitting images with a resolution lower than 200 dpi or higher than 800 dpi.)

Further scan settings

Options not supported by the selected scanner will be not displayed. With Twain compliant scanners, the scan settings are often set within the Twain interface.

Optimal OCR requires a resolution between 300 and 400 dpi. Readiris warns you when youÆre submitting images with a resolution lower than 200 dpi or higher than 800 dpi.

Tip: the option Optimize Resolution for OCR corrects the resolution of images scanned with too much detail. When the image resolution exceeds 600 dpi, the image resolution is reduced for the OCR process.
