OA-Sodat 32 security system

OA-Sodat 32 security system's purpose is to protect computer techniques against unprofessional intervention by amateur users and to protect saved data on the hard drive of individual computers.

Thanks to OA-Sodat 32 security system's wide spectrum of security methods it is able to take care of not only computer viruses but also intentional and unintentional attempts to destroy protected data and WINDOWS 95, 98 settings. The OA-Sodat 32 security system can be used to protect individual office computers or an entire network of computers, such as for authorities, design offices, hospitals, libraries or classrooms with computers.

Besides its main purpose of protecting important data from being lost or damaged the OA-Sodat 32 security system offers indirect savings by significantly reducing the amount of time the system manager needs to maintain the company's information system. OA-Sodat 32 is often used as the building block to prepare and maintain the functionality of the WINDOWS environment which is necessary for safe, error-free, functional environments such as for coded software and possibly for hardware components.

Principles of OA-Sodat 32's activities
The system works on all personal computers with a 286 processor or higher and with a MS-DOS or MS-WINDOWS 95, 98 operating system installed. The controllers for the OA-Sodat 32 security system are loaded into memory before the operating system start. Other parts are loaded afterwards such as "vxd" possibly "sys" controllers. Installation is easy, isn't time-demanding, and can be installed and uninstalled at any time while being used without having to reinstall the operating system or programs which have been installed. The user's work isn't in any way limited and the presence of the OA-Sodat 32 security system isn't noticed.

Individual parts of the OA-Sodat 32 security system
The first part of the OA-Sodat 32 security system protects the computer from the use of potentially dangerous diskettes and other information storage devices. The OA-Sodat 32 security system allows protected computers to use only diskettes which have been authorised by the system manager. Data from unauthorised diskettes can in no way be used by a protected computer. Thanks to this principle it is possible to limit: installation of undesirable software (typically computer games), foreign data on the computer, and the spreading of computer viruses, which are most commonly spread by diskettes. The system manager has the possibility to disallow access, for normal users, to the CD mechanism, ZIPP, SYQUEST, LS 120 and other data storage devices.

The second part of the OA-Sodat 32 security system concentrates on protecting data on the hard disk from being deleted, modified or read. It is possible to protect the entire logical disk, individual directories, their subdirectories or files. For example you can protect the desktop icons and "START MENU" items. When the OA-Sodat 32 security system is used properly then it is impossible to unintentionally delete program icons, which are necessary and difficult to find on the hard disk. Generally speaking, the system manager has the possibility to set individual directories or files as:

  • permitted to read and write (WR)
  • permitted only to read without the possibility to modify or delete (RO)
  • prohibited to read (this directory is never displayed), ideal for hiding
  • installation files, discrete data and possibly system utilities (/)
The third part of OA-Sodat 32's purpose is to protect the settings of WINDOWS 95, 98 by disallowing access to selected control panels or by implementing the registration database security, with which the system manager uses to protect the predefined WINDOWS 95, 98 settings and the presence of all device drivers upon each restart.

How does OA-Sodat 32 communicate with a network?
OA-Sodat 32 is installed on hard drives of individual computers and is irrelevant whether they are independent workstations or computers connected to an arbitrary computer network. OA-Sodat 32 doesn't conflict with any network software, on the contrary it is able to effectively protect them against damage. Installing OA-Sodat 32 on a network workstation always ensures 100% functionality of network applications and access to your server. The system manager has the possibility to administrate the security system from remote computers for example with the help of SMS management of NT-servers from a single location, which makes work significantly easier.

Reliability of the OA-Sodat 32 system
The system manager can decide which part of the OA-Sodat 32 security system to use. All securities, after entering the required password, can be at any time temporarily or permanently deactivated. A suitable combination of individual securities can significantly minimise losses and time needed for maintenance and possibly reinstalling software.

During the development of the OA-Sodat 32 security system, the importance of safety and reliability was put above all. As experience has shown, the functionality of commonly used programs isn't in any way limited and users don't change the environment in which they are used to. Thanks to using a unique two-phase booting principle, the OA-Sodat 32 security system guaranties that it prevents normal users from bypassing the system, booting the system from a diskette and performing operations. The OA-Sodat 32 security system contributes to a good night's sleep for many system managers which use this system with their work.
