Downloading (When you make an online connection to a bank, financial institution or Web site requesting information (such as a stock quote or bank statement), that information is transmitted over the Internet, or ôdownloadedö, to your computer. You can then use that information in your Money file.) your bank or brokerage statements is fast, accurate, and offers you many benefits:
- Money takes the information from your downloaded statement and enters it into your Account Register so you don't have to type in every transaction (Any deposit, transfer, purchase, withdrawal, or other action you enter in an account.) yourself. This is a big time saver!
- If you enter your transactions manually, Money will automatically match them with the transactions downloaded in your online statement (An electronic list of the transactions that have cleared your financial institution. The information is similar to the information in your paper statement, and you can use it to update your account records electronically. Online statements are available through both Web and direct banking in Money.). This gives you a reliable and easy way to double-check the information you get from your financial institution (Bank, brokerage house, and credit card provider.).
- Downloading statements lets you enter unknown transactions such as interest (The cost of borrowed money. Interest payments do not reduce principal on a loan.) accrued, finance charges, and bank fees without having to wait for a paper statement.
- Downloading statements keeps your Money file consistent with your bank and brokerage accounts.
- You can get an account balance at any time, day or night.
- You can see which transactions have cleared your financial institution as soon as they happen, instead of waiting for a statement in the mail. This is especially useful for verifying that automatic deposits and payments have cleared your account.
