Search

The search function enables you to find 

• text, 
• boot records, 
• partition tables, 
• MFT entries and 
• directory buffers (=index allocation)

on your drive.

To enter the search window click Tools->Search on the Main Menu.

Text

To find a text string enter the term either in ASCII or Byte format and press OK.
If you want to find the search term in either case - uppercase or lowercase - select the Ignore Case button.
Use the Fixed offset feature to narrow your search to a certain offset position within one sector. For example: If you know that your search term must be located at the beginning of a file, select Fixed offset and set the hexadecimal and decimal value to 0. Only the 0 offsets on the drive will be searched for the input. The search will be much faster.

Partition Table and  Boot Record

To find a partition table or a boot record, select the corresponding button and press Ok.
If you start your search at the beginning of the drive, the partition table will be found first. To find the boot record just click Tools->Continue Search.

MFT entry

To search for a MFT entry select the corresponding button and press OK.

Directory Buffer (Index Buffer)

Search for an directory buffer by selecting the corresponding button and pressing OK.
