Getting started

You can begin working with Softperfect Network Sniffer immediately after starting it. The main window is shown below. It is the first screen you see.

The main menu and the toolbar are at the top of the window. The network interface selection bar is also there. The "Start capture" button starts and stops data capturing.

The toolbar buttons are:

	Starts a new capture session.
	Loads a previously recorded session.
	Saves the session to a file.
	Finds specific packets in the current session.
	Opens the address book. The address book provides a convenient place to store information about network hosts for easy retrieval.
	Works with the filters. Clicking on the arrow will open the menu, which lets you save the filter for future use. More
	Opens the program settings. More
	Assembles TCP packets from the current session into flows, such as POP3 or HTTP. More
	Opens the traffic flow analysis window. More
	Opens the hosts activity analysis window. More
	Opens the protocols distribution analysis window. More
	Opens the packets size distribution analysis window. More
	Presents this help text.

These three bookmarks give access to the different functions of the program:

	Captures packets transmitted through the network. Use this function to capture data. More
	Assembles TCP packets into flows. It lets you view the data transferred through the TCP packets. More
	Accesses the packet builder where you can build your own packet and send it onto the network. More
