Págalo Parasítico

Parasitic Jaeger

Stercorarius parasiticus

Ave marina de espalda parda, parecida al Págalo Pomarino pero más pequeña, más delgada y con las dos plumas centrales de la cola puntiagudas. Tamaño: 41-46 cm.; peso: 380-510 g. El "parásito" del nombre hace referencia al hábito de los págalos de robarle el alimento a otras aves marinas durante la migración y en el invierno. Anida en la tundra de América del Norte y Eurasia e inverna en el mar de los Sargazos y los mares de América del Sur. Especie migratoria rara en los mares de Puerto Rico, con avistamientos el 17 de mayo de 2001 en Culebra y el primero de octubre de 1999 en Barceloneta.
