Fulmar Boreal

Northern Fulmar

Fulmarus glacialis

Ave parecida a las gaviotas, de cuello grueso y pico relativamente corto. Existen dos versiones del plumaje: una totalmente marrón oscuro y la otra gris pálido con la cabeza, el cuello y las partes ventrales blancas. Tamaño: 45-50 cm.; peso: 450-1,000 g. Anida en grandes colonias en las costas del norte de Eurasia y América del Norte. Accidental en los mares próximos a las islas caribeñas, pero aún no se ha documentado en Puerto Rico. Las colonias de cría más cercanas se encuentran en la costa de Terranova, Canadá.
