Limícola alto de cuello largo, cabeza pequeña y corto pico amarillo. Tamaño: 26-32 cm.; peso: 98-226 g. Audio (Mark Oberle). Anida en los pastizales del interior de América del Norte e inverna en las pampas del sur de Brasil y el norte de la Argentina. Aunque se le considera un visitante raro durante sus largas migraciones, los vientos a veces empujan pequeñas bandadas a Puerto Rico. Por ejemplo, un individuo fue avistado el 15 de octubre de 1987 en Desecheo y a finales de octubre de 1998, 28 ejemplares fueron vistos el 25 de October de 1998 en el aeropuerto de Culebra después de una tormenta. Esta ave fue cazada comercialmente en el siglo XIX y aún es susceptible a las perturbaciones en las praderas donde anida. TAXONOMÍA: CHARADRIIFORMES ; SCOLOPACIDAE; Scolopacinae.
