Multinationals are indeed accountable to the laws that operate in each country. Sorry I dont know who Marks & Spencer are. The reason multinationals operate in any country is to make money. Its as simple as that. If they break the law then they are punished. They are also dictated to by local governments as emonstrated by the recent knockback to Mcds of a store in Katoomba, Australia. (a win for the anarchists).
OK how about suggesting an alternative to Mcds about their packaging. They are obviously not going to shut so viable alternatives must be found. The underpayments of workers were done by dishonest individuals so you cant blame Mcds because of this. Full payments were made long before Mclibel started and not as a consequence of it.
Your right Mcds did say they could not pay lower rates as it is against the law. I guess you are insinuating that if they could they would. Not much point in arguing this as they cant.
Mcds did not sue the defendants. They are defending themselves against the defendants statements. They are not bullying they are defending themselves. This is not about free speech or censorship. Its about defamation. They did not start this. The defendants did and now expect our sympathy (and money). Mr Morris I understand is now going to the European Court to sue for not getting legal aid. Will he expect donations for this. I mean where will all this end. Charles I also deplore exploitation & injuctice but I believe you could have picked a better target.
Select countries and governments who oppress their countrymen & woman. Do something about the LAWS that allow exploitation. I mean the multinationals are operating within laws set by countries. They do not make them themselves.
