I think you have it wrong here. God only gave us one set of teeth (well , two if you count the milk teeth - but one set at a time anyway). Our teeth are more similar to herbivores than carnivores. We do not have the well developed canines that, for eg. a cat has. Also, if you study the rest of our anatomy - like the digestive tract for example - you will see that our bodies are not well suited to a meat only diet. There is a lot of literature that supports this point of view.

On this point I must concede that I am vegetarian and, yes, I do wear leather shoes. I'm not proud of this and if there were a viable alternative I would prefer to use it. I see this as a result of where our society stands at the moment on these issues. I do believe that things are changing for the better and hopefully in a few years time it will be difficult to find a pair of leather shoes!

As for people eating fish or wearing leather shoes, I do believe that at least these people have a conscience and are actively trying to change their way of life for the better. They have begun a journey to rid their lives of all products which have involved the suffering of another living creature. It does not happen all at once. At least they have made a start. Their eyes have been opened!

McSpotlight comment:

Viable alternatives to leather do exist. They are call microfibres and one
such product is called 'Lorica' which is made in Italy. The material is
used for yacht upholstery, boxing gloves, sporting equipment etc.

One company that makes shoes from them (including DMs) is Vegetarian
shoes based in Brighton UK. They have outlets in the US also.
Their number is +44 (0)1273 691913.

There is an Italian company using such materials for footware also.
It's number is (0039) 045 801 09 22

So, there is no need for vegetarians to compromise on footware. :-)
