- New from Glooms Worksop - the all new
- interactive 3D Roleplaying board gameÿ
- "Nuke `em Till They Glo" !
- Being able to tell which games are real
- roleplaying games can be very hard at timesÿ
- can't it? Since roleplaying became (almost)
- trendy most type of games have claimed to be
- Roleplaying.
- Let's be boring and define Roleplaying
- games. A Roleplaying game is one in which
- the player takes takes on the role of
- another character. By this definition most
- games are roleplaying gamesÿ even Monopolyÿ
- so what makes real roleplaying games
- different from the rest? Real roleplaying
- games involved interaction with other humans
- (or hobbits(we hates Baggins)). Still not a
- very clear definition is it?
-
-
- The question isÿ can roleplaying games be:
-
-
- COMPUTER GAMES? Noÿ these are still too
- restrictedÿ a computer only has limited
- responsesÿ but computer games are getting
- better.
- BOARD GAMES? Neitÿ only loonies talk to
- playing pieces.
- FIGHTING FANTASY BOOKS? Pull the other one.
- PLAY-BY-MAIL GAMES? Most are computer
- moderatedÿ nuff said.
- TELEPHONE GAMES? Like F.F. Books (only more
- expensive).
- HENRY the mild mannered janitor? Could be.
-
- Who wrote that? Come onÿ own up. Never
- mind. In conclusion the only real
- roleplaying games (in my humble opinion) are
- live action roleplaying games and real role
- playing games. Still none the wiser? Well we
-
-
-
-
- now know what's not a roleplaying game. Some
- roleplaying games can be difficult to tell
- from board games. Generally role playing
- games have no board and no little fiddly
- pieces of plastic (apart from dice)ÿ except
- those that have boards and pieces of
- plastic. With other types of game it is
- easier to distinguish them from roleplaying
- games. For exampleÿ if it is a flat piece
- of plastic enclosing a circular magnetic
- recording medium of 3.5 or 5.25 (or even 8)
- inches radius then it is a computer game.
- Some people have been confused. 'onest guv.
