- Hi folks,
-
- There is a demo version of 1.99h available for DOS and Linux and
- a transmog file for 1.99h for our DOS customers.
-
- Executor/Linux 1.99h has a bunch of new X-windows code in it, as
- well as a set of bug fixes that affect the DOS version as well.
-
- Both Executor/Linux and Executor/DOS have new timer handling code.
- This code is needed for our future ability to drop in an Apple
- System 7.5 file and have it work (no, it's not anywhere near working
- right now; don't expect this feature for another six months). The
- new timer code also allows the DOS version to use virtual memory
- without locking up the machine.
-
- The drawback is that some timer critical programs (globe, when you
- use sync to VBL and Word when you try to print) will not behave
- properly with this new version. Mat's about to take a week of
- vacation, so it may be a few weeks before we get this particular
- problem fixed, but once we do, we'll start distributing the
- experimental versions of Executor to the usual MS-DOS, Linux and
- NEXTSTEP (actually, we have to revamp our NEXTSTEP front-end before
- we can release it, that's why there's no 1.99h for NEXTSTEP) ftp
- sites and also spread more word about Executor on both the internet
- and some of the major on-line providers.
-
- We still have a little functionality to add, but mostly we just
- have tons of bug fixes that need to be made before we can release
- 2.0. We're working on a definitive list of what needs to get done
- and we'll share it with this mailing list when it's ready.
-
- Bill Goldman is back from vacation, so our file browser/launcher
- will be released soon. We've had some important meetings of late,
- so Bill's continued to work on the browser on a Mac, but I personally
- haven't had enough time to fix the Executor bugs that it's pointed
- out, nor to bundle it up and put it on ftp.cs.unm.edu for your
- examination, but we will be doing that soon.
-
- I hope everyone had a good set of holidays. The flu that I caught
- before the holidays struck me once again right around New Years,
- so I'm still trying to catch up from early December when I first
- caught it, but all in all, things have been going very well.
-
- The X-Windows improvements that our Executor/Linux users might
- notice (they're not particularly well documented, but you can now
- specify different "bpp" settings, and use a wider variety of
- X-servers than before, and by default the colors in other windows
- won't be whacked out) are largely due to Cotton Seed working for
- us once again. If the talks that we've been having of late pan
- out, we'll also be hiring another three or four additional engineers,
- then things will really fly.
-
- It's still too early to say when ftp.ardi.com will be up; we haven't
- even bought the networking hardware yet, but it is something that
- we want to do soon, especially since Executor/DOS and Executor/Linux
- are more attractive than ever.
