- Having just doinged this mailing list and not knowing if any of this has
- been hashed over in the list's past (short) life, what other Mac stuff
- have people got working via twiddlings of .execonfig files? Although I know
- that it would be much too much to hope for, I'd love to see if I could get
- Pagemaker 4.0 to work. Unfortunately, because I need to split the puppy into
- chunks (the executable file is > 1.5meg), and hence use Stuffit to reassemble
- it, I get stuck because Stuffit bombs. Perhaps I should binhex it into a huge
- file on the mac, chop it into parts, reassemble it in Word, and then try
- to unBinHex it? Hmmmm...
-
- Anyway, I'd just be interested to hear what else people have gotten to work
- so far..
-
- One other thing... How about getting Executor to pretend to be something
- better than a Mac+? I tried running the cool public doman game Solarian (yes,
- I know how slow the graphics would be...), but it wouldn't start because
- it said it needed a Mac II to run... Granted, if you pretend to be a Mac II,
- all of a sudden, there's a lot more toolbox stuff to support, but I'd be happy
- to have all that unsupported for now, just so programs like Solarian that
- (maybe) only check for Mac II-ness so that they know that there's a big
- screen for them to run on would possibly crank out some results...
-
- Ok, one last question (is everyone keeping all these straight?). Not having
- Palantino on my NeXT, I am, of course, overjoyed to see it appear in Word.
- If I do someting in Word in Palantino, what I'd like to do is move the Rich
- Text over to Edit or something, pick print and save the PostScript to disk, and
- then take a floppy disk over to the computer lab and print the postscript.
- This works fine normally, but with fonts like Palantino, which Edit has no
- knowledge of, I can't get Edit to crank out PostScript, 'on faith' that the
- printing printer will know what this Palantino stuff is. I guess the lack of
- AFM files or whatever would make it tough for the NeXT to figure out how much
- space on the page a given set of characters took, however, so it would be
- tough to figure out line-breaks, etc...
-
- Enough for now- I really hope all this was coherent and halfway understandable.
