- Yes, SunSoft has ported Solaris 2.1/Solaris2.4 to x86. I'll refrain from
- sharing my painful experiences with it, as others seem to use it quite
- regularly and give it glowing remarks. The biggest downside, IMHO, is
- that not all Solaris source is compatible with Solaris x86 (Java for
- example). From experience, you need >16M (32 is a good usable minimum),
- >486'33 (there is a bit of system overhead), and a fairly standard
- platform to run it on.

- As for the "ibm based computer" incompatibility... it doesn't support
- MCA (Microchannel *shudder*) based machines. If you have one of the newer
- IBM boxes, my bet is that you will be fine. Why anyone still pays the
- premium for a name brand IBM PC is an entirely different issue ;)
