  22. Yes, SunSoft has ported Solaris 2.1/Solaris2.4 to x86. I'll refrain from 
  23. sharing my painful experiences with it, as others seem to use it quite 
  24. regularly and give it glowing remarks.  The biggest downside, IMHO, is 
  25. that not all Solaris source is compatible with Solaris x86 (Java for 
  26. example). From experience, you need >16M (32 is a good usable minimum), 
  27. >486'33 (there is a bit of system overhead), and a fairly standard 
  28. platform to run it on.

  30. But, does it work like Solaris? Yep... 99% the same.

  32. As for the "ibm based computer" incompatibility... it doesn't support 
  33. MCA (Microchannel *shudder*) based machines. If you have one of the newer 
  34. IBM boxes, my bet is that you will be fine. Why anyone still pays the 
  35. premium for a name brand IBM PC is an entirely different issue ;)
