Does this delay happen when you have a DOS CD-ROM in your drive?
Audio-CD? Mac CD-ROM?
1.99p5 fixed (among other things) two bugs, neither of which are what
you're experiencing:
Some DOS systems were experiencing very large delays
when opening DOS drives under E/D
Linux systems with audio CDs playing would have the
audio interrupted when Executor started up
CD-ROM trouble under DOS is not yet fixed. We're looking into this,
but for now you can tell Executor to skip your CD-ROM with the
"-skipdrives" option.
executor -skipdrives d
will tell Executor to not try to use drive d in any way. I know it's
tedious to have to do that, but for now that's all we can provide.

Even if skipdrives helps you out, please answer my questions from the
beginning of this letter. We do want to fix this problem.
