Can it be that Ian's and my RFD was perfect? At any rate, discussion is ongoing in news.groups -- the cesspool in which such things normally happen} REQUEST FOR DISCUSSION (RFD) unmoderated group comp.emulators.mac.executor Summary: Newsgroup for discussion of Executor, a software Macintosh emulator for DOS, Windows, OS/2, Linux, and NEXTSTEP. Proponents: Melissa Algeo (melissa@ardi.com) Ian Viemeister (vmeister@ios.com) This is a formal Request for Discussion (RFD) for the creation of a newsgroup for users of Executor. This RFD has been posted in accordance with "Guidelines for Usenet Newsgroup Creation" by Greg Woods, David C. Lawrence, and Gene Spafford. This RFD is crossposted to the following relevant newsgroups: news.announce.newgroups news.groups alt.comp.emulators.executor comp.emulators.announce comp.emulators.misc comp.os.linux.misc comp.os.ms-windows.misc comp.os.os2.misc comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc comp.sys.next.misc . . . and is also being sent to the Executor Interest mailing list at executor@nacm.com. Interested parties are encouraged to discuss the proposal in news.groups, where followups are set. RATIONALE: The Executor Interest mailing list has 687 subscribers and a great number of regular posters, and the amount of traffic has become overwhelming. When the idea of a newsgroup arose, an interest poll was floated on the list, the results of which showed that the great majority of respondents desired to move to a newsgroup. Comp.emulators.misc is a topically appropriate forum which already contains some Executor traffic, however, the volume of Executor discussion in the mailing list far exceeds what would be appropriate in comp.emulators.misc. Much of the Executor Interest mailing list discussion revolves around specific aspects of Executor, and the amount of this traffic could inadvertently squelch the discussion of emulation technology in general. Members of the Executor user community who lack access to Usenet will continue to be served by a mirroring of the Usenet group to the mailing list and vice versa. CHARTER: Comp.emulators.mac.executor is for general discussion of ARDI's Executor software Macintosh emulator. Executor users and potential users are encouraged to discuss Executor bugs and workarounds and to share tips for getting Executor to work properly with specific hardware and/or software. ARDI will post announcements of new versions, and provide other help when possible. Criticism, advice, and mutual user assistance are all expected and encouraged. Advertisements and off-topic postings are forbidden, as is the posting of encoded binaries or any information on obtaining pirated software. THE VOTING PROCESS: After the discussion period of 21-30 days, if no serious objections are raised, a Call for Votes (CFV) will be issued to the same groups in which this RFD appears. The vote will be tabulated by a neutral third party, who will be a member of the Usenet Volunteer Votetakers selected by the usual process. The voting period will be no less than 21 days. A successful vote requires that at least 100 more votes are cast for creation than against, with an overall majority of 2/3 for creation. If both these conditions are met, the new group will be announced as soon thereafter as is convenient.
